Member’s Briefing – Returning to work safely

With today’s significant easing of restrictions, the Scottish Government has developed a toolkit to support businesses returning and reopening. Please find attached the Helping your business to reopen safely toolkit. This contains links to posters and digital assets that can be used to promote the latest guidance and regulations to employees and customers. They should be used in key spaces where staff and the general public can see them.

The guidance and regulations promoted in the resources are critical to enable businesses to reopen safely while minimising the spread of COVID-19. The campaign toolkit attached includes the following resources:

  • 5 posters, covering messaging for both business staff and customers
  • 4 social/digital posts
  • An A5 leaflet
  • A window sticker

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has also updated their guidance on returning to work safely. Being COVID-secure means being adaptable to the current guidance and having measures in place to manage the risk of coronavirus.

The following workplace controls remain unchanged:

As the economy reopens, ensure your workplace is safe by following the government advice at Coronavirus (COVID-19): creating and maintaining safer workplaces.

Coronavirus legislation in Scotland also requires that face coverings be worn in any indoor communal area in a workplace Coronavirus (COVID-19): face coverings guidance.

Remember your COVID risk assessment

Every workplace should have a COVID risk assessment and you should update it to reflect any changes in legislation or guidance that may impact your work activity, for example, changes in local or national restrictions.

You should also talk to staff, provide information and consider the risk to workers who are particularly vulnerable to coronavirus – putting controls in place to reduce that risk.

The Scottish Government has also issued advice on the continued importance of ventilation in the workplace and the advice card can be found at the link below:

An Advice Card for everyone at work highlighting key ventilation practice has also been published
